My review
I don’t read a ton of romance, but I do enjoy a good one from time to time. I’d been meaning to read this one for a while because it’s one of my best friend’s favorites, and when I saw that Cat Sebastian had an unticketed signing at BookCon, I knew it was time. And I had a great time with it!
We Could Be So Good is a m/m historical romance set in NYC in the 1950s. As you can imagine, that time and place make the MCs’ sexuality complicated, to say the least. Nick is a reporter at the newspaper owned by Andy’s father. When they get assigned to a beat together, they become friends, but as you can guess, that friendship is destined to deepen.
It’s impossible not to love Nick and Andy, and their romance is so sweet. I was rooting so hard for them! I also thought Cat Sebastian did a fantastic job at depicting the way their lives (and their relationship) are dictated by very realistic, genuine challenges, which is what makes or breaks a romance novel for me. I have to believe and sympathize with the reasons for the third act breakup — but those reasons also can’t just be swept under the rug for the sake of the HEA. This book nails it all around.
Finally, fair warning: the audiobook narrator is a little, um, overenthusiastic might be the right word? So if you are sensitive to narrators, you might want to opt for print.
