My review

If not for the Booker Prize longlist, I likely never would have picked up Love Forms. And if not for the fact that I run a Booker Prize book club and had to lead the discussion on this book, I likely never would have finished it, lol.

This is not so much a knock on the book as an observation that the book was just not the right fit for me and my taste (and likely also my brain space at the time). Being about a middle-aged Trinidadian woman named Dawn living in London and seeking the child she gave up for adoption as a teenager, it had all the right ingredients, but unfortunately it just never grabbed me. It’s written in first person, and I didn’t find Dawn’s voice to be that compelling. I felt like I was listening to someone just prattle on about their life rather than a skilled storyteller.

But the ending did make me cry, so points for that!
