My review

The Tyranny of Faith was an awesome sequel to The Justice of Kings, with even higher stakes and even more heart. No second book syndrome here!!

We pick up right where we left off, with our troupe heading back to the capital city of Sova to see what political turmoil truly awaits them. We’re once again in Helena’s POV. I was afraid there wouldn’t be as much spark for me here without the murder mystery of the first one to anchor the plot, but I needn’t have worried — there is a new side quest for the foreground of this book (although it also manages to avoid feeling cheesy or episodic, which was impressive). I do think the first two-thirds of this one was a bit on the slower side, but I never found myself frustrated. And the ending was FIRE.

Vonvalt got so much more complicated in this book, which I also loved, and Helena is on her way to losing her doe-eyed innocence for good. I can only imagine what insanity is about to take place, plot-wise, in the final book of the trilogy!

I think people who love both Robin Hobb and Robert Jackson Bennett will really find that this trilogy is their jam. On to The Trials of Empire!
