My review

I’ve been meaning to read the Dunk and Egg novellas for a while — which, if you aren’t aware, take place about 100 years before the events of A Game of Thrones — but with the new HBO adaptation coming in January, it was time!

The three novellas are now packaged together into one book that they’ve called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the TV show of that name will cover one novella per season. (Will they depart from GRRM again go more than 3 seasons? Will GRRM publish more novellas? Who knows!) I had fun reading them, even though the first one felt by far the strongest to me. Hopefully the same does not hold for the show, but I also know I’ll end up watching it no matter what.

Last thing I’ll say: I listened to the audiobook narrated by Harry Lloyd, who played Daenerys’ brother Viserys in GOT. I think they were very well done if you are able to listen in a quiet place; however, Lloyd dramatically whispers or mutters often enough that made it very hard to hear him as I attempted to listen in the car. I literally had my car volume all the way up and still struggled. Just something to be aware of!
