My review

I always meant to read Writers & Lovers but never quite got to it. And I’m glad I didn’t realize that Heart the Lover was a sequel (of sorts) before I picked it up, because that means I probably would have put this one off until I could find time to read W&L, and that would have been a shame! Because this book was beautiful (and because you really don’t need to have read W&L to enjoy it at all.)

As an OTP girlie, it’s typically hard for me to get behind a love story if I know it’s not going to work out (that’s not a spoiler, it’s the premise). But this book so perfectly encapsulates the fever dream of first love and the way aging and growth change our perspectives that I was fully hooked. I’m also a deeply loyal person, so I’m always especially impressed with a book when it convinces me to recognize that there are two sides to every story after I’d spent the whole book firmly rooting for one of them.

Also, I knew this was going to make me cry, and it STILL made me sob my eyes out. So there’s that.

I will definitely be reading W&L now!
